These shows, they're trying to pass off as debates, look like some off-off Broadway show. I would recommend to anyone who wants to know what a real debate looks like to go to YouTube and find a PBS show called Firing Line. William Buckley was the host who took on many opponents in many real debates (no moderators needed). One of the best opponents being Gore Vidal. Real discussions from all sides of the political and cultural worlds at the time. Not much has changed in the subjects discussed, just the quality and ability of the people involved.
